Sound – Is a type of energy that is made when objects vibrate.

Heat – Is a kind of energy that makes things warmer. Heat can turn a solid to a liquid and a liquid into a gas.

This week in Math we will finish discussing two-dimensional shapes and their sides, vertices and angles. We will then begin our final unit of the term, focusing on partitioning rectangles and identifying equal parts in different two-dimensional shapes. Students will be showing, describing and problem-solving with equal parts.

For Creative Writing this week we will continue working on the words with the long /o/ sound and new spelling patterns that make this sound. We will practice finding synonyms and antonyms with our vocabulary words. Our story this week will be called, “The Goat Boat”. 2 new students will be taking the traveling bear home and presenting to the class as well.

This week in math we will be continuing and then finishing our work on three-dimensional shapes by learning how to draw and make our own shapes. We will discuss their different attributes, including their edges, faces, and vertices. 

In Creative Writing this week we will complete another unit that focuses on words ending with -ed and -ing. The base words used in this unit will all end with only one consonant letter and will ask students to practice “doubling” the last letter and adding the correct ending (EX: drop = dropping). We will practice our vocabulary words through synonyms and word meanings. We will have our weekly assessment on Friday.

Night – The period of darkness in each twenty four hours.

Earth  The planet where we live and the only known planet containing life.

For Math this week, we will be completing our unit on graphing. The students will be taking a chapter review/test to demonstrate their understanding of tally charts, picture graphs and bar graphs. After finishing chapter 10, we will be introducing a new unit on geometry and fractions. We will spend some time reviewing geometric figures and where we can find these shapes in the environment around us.

After a break from the Field trip and holiday, this week we will continue with more words with long /i/. These new words will follow the spelling rules: i, y, ie, or igh. We will practice our new words by finding their synonyms and antonyms in addition to sentence completion activities. We will also read the story, “Cloud Watching” and use the vocabulary words to complete the story.

This week in math we will continue to practice working on data collection and graphing, focusing on how to make our own bar graphs. We will finish Chapter 10 this week and at the end of the week there will be a short review/assessment that will ask students to use the knowledge they have gained from this unit through a variety of graphing methods and problem solving with data.

Creative Writing
Due to our Scout Field trip on Tuesday and no school on Thursday, we will not be learning new words this week. Instead, we will review and practice old spelling words and vowel sounds in our book on Friday. This means there will be no spelling test this week. We will also send our traveling bear home with another student this week!

Last week we began by learning about tally charts and how to take a survey in order to collect data. Creative Writing
Due to Loy Krathong and Sports Day activities this week, we will not be introducing new spelling words this week. Instead, during Friday’s class we will be reviewing past words in preparation for our exams. There will be no spelling test this week. We will have another student take home the traveling bear and present during class on Friday.

This week we will begin a new unit on measurement. We will introduce using an inch unit and practice measuring different objects by inches using different methods, beginning with inch unit tiles. We will also make our own rulers to use and will measure different lengths to practice both length and comparing numbers.

This week in Creative Writing, we will begin Lesson 19, which focuses on words with the long /e/ sound. We will read a story called, “Grandfather’s Race” and use our vocabulary words to complete the story. We will also practice our spelling words through word grouping, synonyms, and reading. We will have our traveling bear presentation as well.

This week we will continue to work on telling time. Students will continue practicing telling time (analog and digital) to the hour, half hour and 5-minute. However, this week we will learn new ways to tell the time such as “half past” or “quarter past” and will discuss AM and PM and how to decide if time is in the morning, afternoon, or night.

In Creative Writing this week we will be completing Lesson 17: Words with -ed and -ing. We will use base words learned in the past and be adding suffixes onto the end and explaining what that means and why it is important. We will practice through synonyms, antonyms, definitions, and completing our weekly story which is called, “Rabbit and Turtle”.  As each student has had a turn, the traveling bear will be sent home with a new student for a second time on Tuesday and shared on Friday. There will be a spelling test on Friday for vocabulary.

Every Friday each student who has written in the book will do a short presentation to the class about their adventure with The Travelling Teddy Bear.

This week we will complete a short review of the previous term and begin working in our Volume 2 book and practicing telling time. We will begin telling time to the hour, half hour, and 5 minutes. We will also introduce using different ways to talk about time, using vocabulary such as quarter past, half past, and quarter to. 

Creative Writing:
This week we will be working on Unit 16: more words with long /a/. We will review material from the previous week and introduce new spelling patterns for long /a/. We will also practice using homophones and dictionary skills. Our story this week is called “The Letter” and students will use their new spelling words to complete the reading. The traveling bear will be sent home on Tuesday and our spelling test and bear presentation will be on Friday.
